The Free Dirt Repository


Free Dirt is a short story written by author and screen-writer, the late Charles Beaumont. This story was first published in the May 1955 edition of the The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, edited by Anthony Boucher.

Free Dirt tells the story of a Mr. Aorta and his avid pursuit of all things considered 'free', as in without a price attached to it. If the story has a moral tone in relation to this, it is that Mr. Aorta's obsession with renegoiating the monetary value assigned to common things becomes his downfall.
